BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF INDIANAPOLIS RECEIVE DONATION FROM AMAZON
Donation Gives BGCI the Opportunity to Increase Educational Program Funding

Indianapolis, IN January 17, 2012 – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI) are proud to announce that Amazon has made a generous donation to BGCI’s educational programming fund.

“Donations like this allow for our youth programs we offer to be successful,” said Rick Whitten, Executive Director of BGCI.  “In order for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis to provide educational programs to over 8,800 youth each year, we need donations like this from Amazon.”

This donation will be used to fund the programs PowerHour and Goals for Graduation, education based programs that are in place to positively affect the current declining graduation trends among Indianapolis High Schools.

According to the Indianapolis Public Schools 2010 graduation rates, 58.3% of students are finishing high school compared to the national average which floats just below 80%. These are the statistics that BGCI’s programs directly impact and continued support from companies, like Amazon.com, will allow for BGCI to continue increasing the city’s graduation rates.

“Amazon is proud to support the important educational programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis,” said Dave Alperson, General Manager of the Indiana Amazon Fulfillment Centers.  “As a member of the Indianapolis community, we hope this contribution can have a positive impact on the lives of area students.”
